CIRCUIT DE BARCELONA - CATALUNYA SPAIN

TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS

The circuit of Catalonia (circuit de Catalunya in Catalan , circuit de Cataluña in Spanish ) is a circuit for car and motorcycle competitions located on Mas Moreneta street in Montmeló , twenty kilometers north-east of Barcelona, the capital of the community

The flagship of the Catalan capital, the plant was inaugurated in view of the 1992 Olympic Games and since 1991 it has been home to the Formula 1 Spanish Grand Prix currently organized by the RACC (Real Automovil Club de Cataluña).

Given the characteristics of the track and the mildness of the climate, it is one of the most used circuits for the tests of the teams in winter and during the year, and in addition to car races, this circuit is also known for the test of the world championship held there. annually since 1992, the Catalan Grand Prix .

There are three existing tracks: the 4655m Grand Prix circuit, the 3067m Nacional circuit, and the 1703m Escuela circuit. The track hosting the Spanish Grand Prix is run clockwise and like the other two is part of a recently built facility; in the sixty-five laps of the race the cars cover a total distance of about 307 km characterized by a particularly undulating road surface, the circuit is one of the most appreciated by the drivers for its articulation and for the straights that "close" with sufficiently wide and fast curves . The starting and finishing straight allows you to reach peaks of "only" 320 km / h, lower than those of other tracks due to the high aerodynamic load required. Problems with the tires can derive from the more closed curves, which alter the pressure, as well as from the rather dirty surface due to the accumulations of sand coming from the nearby countryside that affect the set-up of the car and also the race tactics forcing numerous returns to box.
