The Sepang circuit home to the Malaysian Grand Prix. T ristemente famous for the accident that killed Marco Simoncelli. It is located 50 km south of the capital of Kuala Lumpur and has always been home to MotoGP.
The track is a state-of-the-art facility that includes hotels, golf courses, go-kart tracks and shops. Originally designed by the consulting firm of German engineer Hermann Tilke.
It is 5,543 m long and is the widest in the world (25 meters against an average of about 15 meters on the other tracks), and allows pilots a wide choice of trajectories.
The 2 very fast straights of 900 meters each and the 11 equally steep corners favor overtaking, but there are also 4 slow corners, which require good handling skills from the bikes.
There are many challenging braking sections, including the first after the finish line where you go from 330 km / h to 90 km / h and the last one before the starting straight where you get to 312 km / h and restart at 86 km / h.
In this circuit on 23 October 2011, during the MotoGP race, the Italian rider Marco Simoncelli lost his life at Turn 11. On 2 November 2019 Indonesian rider Afridza Munandar lost his life during the first lap of the Idemitsu Asian Talent Cup at Turn 10. Both crashes were fatal for the same reason.
To keep in mind the climate, high temperatures and the high percentage of humidity make life difficult for pilots.
